If W1 , W2 subspaces of vertor spaces V . Show two statements are equivalent:
(a) for each v อยู่ใน V, there exist unique vector w1 อยู่ใน W1 , w2 อยู่ใน W2 such that v=w1+w2
(b) W1+W2=V and W1 intersec W2 = {0} .

$(a) \Rightarrow (b)$ Assume that for each $v \in V$, there exist unique vector $w_1 \in W_1$, $w_2 \in W_2$ such that $v=w_1+w_2$.
Clearly, $W_1+W_2 \subseteq V$.
Let $x \in V$. Then $x=w_1+w_2$ such that $w_1 \in W_1$ and $w_2 \in W_2$, so $x \in W_1 + W_2$. Hence $W_1+W_2 = V$. And it is clear that $\{ 0 \} \subseteq W_1 \cap W_2$. Let $y \in W_1 \cap W_2$. Then we can write $y = y + 0 \in W_1 + W_2$ and $y = 0 + y \in W_1 + W_2$. By the uniqueness part of the assumption, we have $y=0$. Hence $W_1 \cap W_2 = \{ 0 \}$.
