product rule of vector
|
What is the definition of $(FG)(t)$ ?
|
F(t)G(t) อ่ะครับ
|
F: [a,b]-->R^3 is a function that parameterizes curve K (meaning that F(a) = F(b)). Suppose that P is a point not on the curve. If Q = F(t) is a point on K that is close to P as possible (a<t<b), prove that vector PG is perpendicular to F'(t).
If $F(t)=(F_1(t),F_2(t),F_3(t)),G(t)=(G_1(t),G_2(t),G_3(t))$ then $(F\cdot G)(t)=F_1(t)G_1(t)+F_2(t)G_2(t)+F_3(t)G_3(t)$. The product rule for real-valued functions is enough to prove this statement. |
$f(s) = \|P-F(s)\|^2$. Then $f'(s)=-2(P-F(s))\cdot F'(s)$. Since $Q=F(t)$ is the closest point to $K$, $s=t$ is the minimizer of $f(s)$. This implies $f'(t)=0$. Thus $-2(P-F(t))\cdot F'(t)=0$ or $(Q-P)\cdot F'(t)=0$. This means that the vector $\overrightarrow{PQ}$ is perpendicular to $F'(t)$. |
