Paper 2: #3
เพื่อตัดกรณีหยุมหยิมออกไปผมขอสมมติว่า $b,c,-b,-c,0$ มีค่าต่างกันหมดนะครับ ส่วนกรณีหยุมหยิมที่ว่าเอกลักษณ์จะถูกลดทอนไปสู่เอกลักษณ์ที่พิสูจน์ได้ง่ายขึ้นครับ (รึเปล่า ) ซึ่งผมขอละส่วนนี้ไว้ หลังจากจัดรูปใหม่เราจะได้พหุนามในตัวแปร $a$ $P(a)= a^2(b-c)(c+a-b)(a+b-c)+b^2(c-a)(b+c-a)(c+a-b)+c^2(a-b)(b+c-a)(c+a-b)+(a+b+c)^2(a-b)(b-c)(c-a)$ ซึ่งจากการแทนค่า (อย่างโหดร้าย ) เราจะพบว่า $b,c,-b,-c,0$ เป็นราก (ที่แตกต่างกัน $5$ ราก) ของ $P(a)$ แต่ $P(a)$ มีกำลังได้ไม่เกิน $4$ ดังนั้นจึงเป็นไปได้อย่าง เดียวว่า $P(a)$ จะต้องเป็นพหุนามศูนย์ (มิเช่นนั้นจะขัดแย้งกับทฤษฎีบทหลักมูลพีชคณิต) เราจึงได้เอกลักษณ์ตามที่ต้องการครับ

$\because tan\phi=\frac{cosA}{cos\phi cos\theta} $ $ tan\psi =\frac{cosB}{cos\psi cos\phi} $ $ tan\theta=\frac{cosC}{cos\theta cos\psi} $ $\therefore tan\phi tan\psi tan\theta = \frac{cosAcosBcosC}{{(cos\phi cos\psi cos\theta)}^2} $ $\because cosAcosBcosC={(cos\phi cos\psi cos\theta)}^2$ $\therefore tan\phi tan\psi tan\theta =1$

PROBLEM PAPERS 2
1. A given point $D$ lies between two given lines $AB$ and $AC$. Find a construction for a line through $D$ terminated by $AB$ and $AC$, such that $D$ is one of its points of trisection. Prove also that there are two such lines. Solution: Produce $AD$ to $E,$ making $DE$ either $= 2AD$ or $\frac12AD.$ Draw $EC$ parallel to $AB,$ meeting $AC$ in $C.$ Produce $CD$ to meet $AB$ in $B.$ Then $BC$ is the line required, since $BD : DC = AD : DE.$ เฉลยดูสั้นดี ไม่รู้ว่าตอนที่แต่ละคนลองคิดเอง จะสั้นแบบนี้หรือเปล่า ?

PROBLEM PAPERS 2
2. If a conic circumscribe a parallelogram, its centre must be at the intersection of the diagonals.
Solution: Let $ABCD$ be the parallelogram; $E, F, G, H$ the middle points of the sides. Then $E$ and $G$ are the middle points of parallel chords, therefore $EG$ passes through the centre of the conic, and similarly for $FH$. Hence the centre of the conic is the intersection of $EG, FH,$ which is also the intersection of the diagonals. _

3. Prove the identity
$$\frac{a^2(b-c)}{b+c-a} + \frac{b^2(c-a)}{c+a-b} + \frac{c^2(a-b)}{a+b-c} + \frac{(a+b+c)^2(b-c)(c-a)(a-b)}{(b+c-a)(c+a-b)(a+b-c)} = 0.$$ Solution: By the ordinary rule of partial fractions, $$ \frac{x^2}{(x-a)(x-b)(x-c)} \equiv \Sigma \frac{a^2}{(a-b)(a-c)} \cdot \frac{1}{x-a}.$$ Putting $x = \frac12(a + b + c),$ the given identity easily follows. _

4. If there be any number of quantities $a, b, c, ...,$ shew that
$$a^3+b^3+c^3+...-3(abc+abd+...)$$ is divisible by $a + b + c + . . .$ and find the quotient. Solution: If $ \Sigma a = p, \Sigma ab = q, \Sigma abc = r, $ then $ \Sigma a^3 = p^3-3pq+3r $. Hence $ \Sigma a^3 -3r $ is divisible by p, the quotient being $ p^2-3q = \Sigma a^2 - \Sigma ab $. _

PROBLEM PAPERS 2
5. If in a triangle $a, c$ and $C$ are given, and $b_1, b_2$ are the two values of the third side, and $r_1, r_2$ the radii of the two inscribed circles, prove that $(i) \;\; \left(\frac{b_1}{r_1}-\cot\frac12C\right)\left(\frac{b_2}{r_2}-\cot\frac12C\right) = 1.$ $(ii) \;\; r_1r_2 = a(a-c)\sin^2\frac12C.$ Solution: $(i) \;\;$ Since in any triangle $\frac a r = \cot\frac12B + \cot\frac12C$ with similar formulae, we have. $$ \left(\frac{b_1}{r_1} - \cot\frac12C \right) \left(\frac{b_2}{r_2} - \cot\frac12C \right) = \cot\frac12{A_1} \cdot \cot\frac12{A_2} = 1,$$ $\;\;\;\;\;\;$ since $ \frac12{A_1} + \frac12{A_2} = 90^\circ $. $(ii) \;\;$ Using the same formulae, $$ \frac{a-c}{r_2} = \cot\frac12C - \cot\frac12{A_2} = \cot\frac12C - \tan\frac12{A_1} = \frac{\cos\frac12{(C + A_1)}}{\sin\frac12C \cdot \cos\frac12{A_1}} = \frac{\sin\frac12{A_1}}{\sin\frac12C \cdot \cos\frac12{A_1}}.$$ $\;\;\;\;\;\;$ Also $$ \frac{a}{r_1} = \cot\frac12{B_1} + \cot\frac12{C} = \frac{\sin\frac12{(B_1+C)}}{\sin\frac12{B_1} \cdot \sin\frac12{C}} = \frac{\cos\frac12{A_1}}{\sin\frac12{B_1} \cdot \sin\frac12{C}}.$$ $\;\;\;\;\;\;$ Multiplying these, the result follows. _

6. Prove that if $\cos A = \cos\theta \sin\phi, \cos B = \cos\phi \sin\psi, \cos C = \cos\psi \sin\theta,$ and $A + B + C = \pi,$
then $\tan\theta \tan\phi \tan\psi = 1.$ Solution: Since $1 - \Sigma \cos^2A - 2\cos A \cos B \cos C \equiv 0,$ and since $\; 1 - \Sigma \cos^2\theta \sin^2\phi = 1 - \Sigma \sin^2\theta + \Sigma \sin^2\theta \sin^2\phi $ $\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; = (1 - \sin^2\theta)(1 - \sin^2\phi)(1 - \sin^2\psi) + \sin^2\theta \sin^2\phi \sin^2\psi) $ $\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\;\; = \Pi \cos^2\theta + \Pi \sin^2\theta ;$ it follows that $\;\;\;\Pi \cos^2\theta + \Pi \sin^2\theta - 2\Pi \cos\theta \sin\theta = 0,\;\;$ i.e. $(\Pi \cos\theta - \Pi \sin\theta)^2 = 0,\;\;$ or $\Pi \tan\theta = 1.$ _

PROBLEM PAPERS 2
7. Prove that the locus of the poles of chords of the circle $x^2 + y^2 = a^2$ which subtend a right angle at the fixed point $(h, k)$ is the circle
$$ (h^2+k^2-a^2)(x^2+y^2)-2a^2ky+2a^4 = 0.$$ Solution: The polar of $(X, Y)$ is $xX + yY = a^2$. Transferring to $(h,k)$ as origin, this becomes $$xX + yY = a^2-hX-kY .......................... (i),$$ while the equation to the circle is now $$x^2+y^2+2hx+2ky+h^2+k^2-a^2 = 0 .......................... (ii).$$ Forming the equation to the lines joining the origin to the intersections of $(i)$ and $(ii)$ by the ordinary rule, and writing down the condition that these are perpendicular, we obtain the required locus of $(X, Y)$. .
