Explain the fallacy : $ I = \int^1_{-1} \frac{dx}{1+x^2} = -\int^1_{-1}\frac{dy}{1+y^2} = -I $ using the transformation $ x= \frac{1}{y} $ Hence $ I=0$. But $ I = arctan(1) - arctan(-1) = \frac{\pi}{4} - ( -\frac{\pi}{4}) = \frac{\pi}{2}$ . Thus $\frac{\pi}{2} = 0.$

The change of variable formula works if the transformation is monotone. Is x = 1/y monotone on [-1,1] ?

y = 1/x, y = sin x หรือ y = cos x และฟังก์ชันอื่นๆที่ไม่ใช่ monotone ฟังก์ชันใช่หรือเปล่าครับ ปล. ขอโทษทีนะครับที่ขึ้นผิด เด๋วแก้ให้คับ

By substituting $u=\tan{x}$, $$\int_{\frac{-\pi}{2}}^{\frac{\pi}{2}} \tan{x} \sin{(\tan{x})}dx = \int_{-\infty}^{\infty} \frac{u\sin{u}}{1+u^2}du.$$ Let R > 1 and let $\Gamma$ be the contour $\Gamma_1 + \Gamma_2$ where $\Gamma_1 (t) = t, -R\leq t \leq R$ and $\Gamma_2 (t) = Re^{it}, 0 \leq t \leq \pi.$ Let $\displaystyle{ f(z) = \frac{ze^{iz}}{1+z^2} }$. Note that $f(z)$ has only a simple pole at i inside $\Gamma$. Thus $$\int_{\Gamma} f(z) dz = 2\pi i \text{Res} (f,i) = 2\pi i \lim_{z\rightarrow i} (z-i)f(z) = \frac{\pi i}{e}.$$ We also have $\displaystyle{ \int_{\Gamma_1} f(z) dz = \int_{-R}^{R} \frac{t\cos{t}}{1+t^2} dt + i\int_{-R}^{R} \frac{t\sin{t}}{1+t^2} dt = 0 + i\int_{-R}^{R} \frac{t\sin{t}}{1+t^2} dt }$ because $\displaystyle{\frac{t\cos{t}}{1+t^2}}$ is an odd function and $\displaystyle{ | \int_{\Gamma_2} f(z) dz | \leq (\frac{ R^2}{R^2 - 1}) \int_{0}^{\pi} e^{ - R\sin{t}} dt < (\frac{R^2}{R^2 - 1}) (\frac{\pi}{R}) }$ by Jordan's Lemma (tell me if you need more clarification at this step ) Letting $R\rightarrow \infty$, we get $$i\int_{-\infty}^{\infty} \frac{t\sin{t}}{1+t^2} dt = \frac{\pi i}{e}.$$ Therefore, $$\int_{\frac{-\pi}{2}}^{\frac{\pi}{2}} \tan{x} \sin{(\tan{x})}dx = \frac{\pi}{e}.$$ Note : Jordan's Lemma : $\displaystyle{ \int_{0}^{\pi} e^{-R\sin{t}} dt < \frac{\pi}{R} }$ for all $R>0.$
