Topology question again and again
Define a function $f: (0,2\pi) \times (0,1) \rightarrow \mathbb{R} \times\mathbb{R}$ by $f(\theta ,t) = (tcos\theta ,tsin\theta ).$
1.Is $f$ continuous?

1. Yes
2. We can view the function $f$ as a continuous function on the complex plane defined by $f(\theta,t)=te^{i\theta}$. From this viewpoint, we can see that the image of this function is an open annulus minus the positive real line $$A=\{z\in\mathbb{C} : 0<|z|<1\}-\{x\in\mathbb{R} : 0<x<1 \}$$ ($t$ acts as the radius which is in the interval $(0,1)$ and $\theta$ acts as the angle which vary in the interval $(0,2\pi)$. Pictorially, it is the pac-man shaped set (when he shut his mouth). Thus the closure of the image of $f$ is the unit disk $D^2=\{z\in\mathbb{C} : |z|\leq 1\}$. To find the closure, you can just add the boundary of this set.

1 Let M be a non-empty set,and let d be a real-valued function of ordered pairs of elements of M satisfying
$ i) d(x,y) = 0 \Longleftrightarrow x = y $ $ ii) d(x,y) \leq d(x,z) + d(y,z) $ Show that d is a metric on M. ไม่รู้จะเริ่มต้นยังไง

$d(x,y)\geq0$ $d(x,y)=d(y,x)$ $d(x,z)\leq d(x,y)+d(y,z)$ $Prove$ $d(x,y)\geq0$ แทนค่า i) ลงใน ii) จะได้ $0\leq d(x,z)+d(x,z)$ $0\leq d(x,z)$ แต่มันติดปัญหาตรงที่ กรณีที่$d(x,y)\not=0$จะต้องทำไง

If I understand your question right, I think that after you can prove nonnegative of $d$ , the problem quoted above is solved immediately from hypothesis (i) by using the fact that $ p \Leftrightarrow q \equiv \sim p \Leftrightarrow \sim q $

1.C is closed set and F is continuous function. Is F(c) closed ?
2.C is open set and F is continuous function. Is F(c) open ? Thank you |

2. If $f$ is continuous and $C$ is closed and bounded (i.e., compact) then $f(C)$ is also closed and bounded. But the statement is not true in general.
I have two nice examples. Let $f,g:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$ be defined by $$f(x)=e^{-\frac{x^2}{2}}$$ $$g(x)=\frac{1}{1+x^2}$$ Then $f(\mathbb{R})=g(\mathbb{R})=(0,1]$ which is neither closed nor open. If we normalize these two functions(in $L^1$ norm) then we can see that the function $f$ is the density function of the standard normal distribution and $g$ is the density function of the Cauchy distribution.

C is open set and F is continuous function. Is F(c) open ?

ถ้า $f$ continuous, 1-1, onto ก็อาจจะยังไม่จริงในกรณีทั่วไปนะครับ แต่ตัวอย่างอาจจะพิลึกพิลั่นหน่อยอย่างเช่น ถ้าให้ $$f: (\mathbb{R},D)\to (\mathbb{R},d)$$ นิยามโดย $f(x)=x$ เมื่อ $d$ เป็น usual metric on $\mathbb{R}$ induced by absolute value, $D$ เป็น discrete metric เราจะพบว่า $f$ continuous, 1-1, onto แต่ $f$ ไม่ส่ง open set ไปยัง open set

Banach space
